Solo Leveling is famous for Sung Jinwoo’s insane power growth, but the real depth of the story comes from the Monarchs and Gods who exist behind the scenes.
These beings are not simple villains — they are living forces of destruction, death, fear, and decay, locked in an endless war against the Rulers.
In this post, we rank and explain all 9 Monarchs and Gods in Solo Leveling, breaking down their powers, personalities, and importance to the story.

Who Are the Monarchs in Solo Leveling?
Monarchs are ancient god-like beings born from darkness. Their purpose is simple — destroy worlds.
Opposing them are the Rulers, beings of light who protect civilizations.
The entire Solo Leveling story exists because of this war.
9. The Absolute Being – Creator God of Solo Leveling
The Absolute Being is the original god who created both Monarchs and Rulers. Instead of maintaining balance, he forced them into an endless war purely for his own amusement.
Once the Rulers realized the truth, they rebelled and killed him. Ashborn, the only loyal Ruler, arrived too late.
His death proves one of Solo Leveling’s core themes: even gods are not above consequences.
8. Legia – Monarch of the Beginning (King of Giants)
Legia was sealed by the Rulers early in the war using weapons forged from the Absolute Being’s power.
His capture weakened the Monarch side significantly.
When Sung Jinwoo meets him, Legia tries to manipulate him using a magical oath. Jinwoo immediately sees through the plan and kills him.
Despite his grand title, Legia never gets the chance to show his true strength.
7. Tarnak – Monarch of Steel (King of Monsters)
Tarnak’s power comes from pure durability. His steel body makes him extremely hard to damage, especially in group battles.
However, once Jinwoo and the shadow army focus on him, Tarnak’s lack of adaptability becomes obvious. Defense alone is not enough against evolving enemies.
6. Yogumunt – Monarch of Transfiguration
Yogumunt plays a support role among the Monarchs. He specializes in:
- Summoning armies
- Opening portals
- Controlling battlefields
During the final war, Jinwoo uses Dragon Fear to paralyze Yogumunt’s summoned forces. Without his armies, Yogumunt is helpless and later killed after the timeline resets.
5. Querehsha – Monarch of Plagues (Queen of Insects)
Querehsha fights using parasites, poison, and undead creatures. Her combat style focuses on slowly overwhelming enemies.
This strategy completely fails against Jinwoo, who is immune to poison. Once she loses her advantage, Jinwoo kills her in close combat.
4. Sillad – Monarch of Frost
The Frost Monarch is calm, intelligent, and deadly. He can freeze entire battlefields and uses ice-based tactics efficiently.
He kills Chairman Go Gunhee and escapes Jinwoo multiple times. Still, once forced into a direct fight, even his planning is not enough.
3. Rakan – Monarch of Fangs (King of Beasts)
Rakan is one of the physically strongest Monarchs. He overwhelms S-Rank hunters and nearly kills Thomas Andre.
Despite this, Rakan is a coward. When defeat feels close, he runs and even begs Jinwoo for mercy — which Jinwoo does not give.
2. Antares – Monarch of Destruction (King of Dragons)
Antares is the strongest Monarch besides Ashborn. He commands a massive dragon army and wields world-ending firepower.
Jinwoo defeats Antares only after pushing himself to the limit and receiving help from the Rulers. Even after time resets, Antares remains Jinwoo’s final enemy.
1. Ashborn – Monarch of Shadows (King of the Dead)
Ashborn is the most powerful and important Monarch in Solo Leveling. Originally a Ruler, he gained the power of death and became the Shadow Monarch.
Feared by both Monarchs and Rulers, Ashborn waited for a successor capable of breaking fate itself. That successor was Sung Jinwoo.
After fully inheriting Ashborn’s power, Jinwoo surpasses him and ends the eternal war.
Why Sung Jinwoo Is Stronger Than All Monarchs
Unlike the Monarchs, Jinwoo is not bound by destiny or a fixed role. He adapts, grows, and chooses his own path — something even gods failed to do.
That is why he stands above them all.
