Poor Naruto
This spiky-haired ninja had the misfortune of being shunned by his village, having a giant fox demon sealed inside him, and growing up all alone. I mean, seriously, if his life were a sitcom, it would be called “The Misadventures of Orange Jumpsuit.”
Sasuke, the brooding Avenger
Sasuke’s entire family got wiped out by his big brother, who happened to be a villain. Talk about family drama! If there was an award for the “Most Emo Anime Character,” he would have a whole collection.
Kaneki Ken, the half-human half-ghoul hybrid
One day, he’s just a regular college student, and the next, he’s transformed into a flesh-craving monster. Now he’s stuck in a world where he can’t enjoy a plate of sushi without feeling like he’s betraying his own kind. Tough break, Kaneki. Tough break.
Levi Ackerman, the clean freak
Sure, he’s got abs that could crush walnuts, but that doesn’t mean his life is all sunshine and roses. Levi lost his entire squad, has a severe case of OCD, and is constantly battling titans. Can you imagine how exhausting it must be to keep those abs pristine amidst all the chaos?
Hinata Hyuga, the shy romantic
She’s been crushing on Naruto since they were kids, but her shyness always got in the way. She even had to watch him chase after another girl for years. Talk about being stuck in the friend zone forever! Poor Hinata, doomed to be the poster child for unrequited love.
Ciel Phantomhive, the little Earl with a demon butler
Sure, he might have all the wealth and power one could dream of, but at what cost? Ciel had to witness the brutal murder of his parents, strike a deal with a demon, and basically become a pawn in a game of revenge. I don’t know about you, but I think I’ll stick to playing Monopoly instead.
Itachi Uchiha, the tragic prodigy
This guy had to massacre his entire clan to prevent a coup, all for the sake of peace. Talk about carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders! If there was an award for “Most Emotionally Draining Life Choices,” Itachi would win, hands down.
Guts, the one-man slaughter machine
This brooding swordsman had a childhood that can only be described as a living nightmare. Raised as a mercenary, Guts witnessed unimaginable horrors, including the death of his mother and the betrayal of his best friend. I guess you could say he’s the poster boy for “tough luck.”
Lucy, the lost Diclonius
Poor Lucy was born with horns and special powers, making her a target of cruelty and scientific experimentation. Add in a tragic past and a split personality, and you’ve got a recipe for a really messed up life. Talk about having an identity crisis!
Shouya Ishida, the redeemed bully
Shouya was the bully extraordinaire in his elementary school days, but karma caught up with him in the form of guilt and isolation. Nothing like being a loner who desperately tries to make amends for past sins. You’ve gotta hand it to him for his journey of self-improvement, though.
Homura Akemi, the time-traveling magical girl
Homura may be a magical girl, but her story is anything but magical. She repeatedly travels through time to save her best friend, Madoka, from a tragic fate. It’s like Groundhog Day, but with magical battles and heartbreak. Can’t catch a break, huh?

From witnessing his mother’s gruesome death to fighting against monstrous titans, Eren’s life is a rollercoaster ride of despair and rage. It’s hard not to feel sorry for him, even if he does have a penchant for smashing things with his titan form.
Jiraiya, the perverted sage
Despite being a wise and powerful ninja, Jiraiya’s romantic life was nothing short of tragic. He had a crush on Tsunade, but she only saw him as a dear friend. Talk about being stuck in the “friend zone” for decades. Poor Jiraiya, forever known as the ultimate bachelor.
Yato, the stray god
Yato might be a god, but he’s living on the streets, struggling to make ends meet as a handyman-for-hire. And let’s not forget the whole “gods-aren’t-worshipped-anymore” predicament. It’s tough being a deity when people barely even notice you.
Nezuko Kamado, the demon sister
Nezuko’s story is one of tragedy and resilience. After her family is slaughtered, she becomes a demon herself but manages to retain her human emotions. Imagine being torn between your hunger for human flesh and your love for your brother. Now that’s a dilemma!
Killua Zoldyck, the tortured assassin
Born into a family of notorious assassins, Killua had a childhood filled with rigorous training and emotional manipulation. Talk about pressure! It’s hard to have a normal childhood when you’re being groomed to be a professional killer.
Haku, the mist ninja
Haku’s life took a tragic turn when he was forced to become a weapon for his village. He endured a painful childhood and was ultimately consumed by a sense of loyalty and duty. It’s a tough gig when your only purpose in life is to be someone else’s pawn.
Menma, the ghostly wish-maker
Menma’s story is heart-wrenching, as she died at a young age and became a ghost haunting her friends. Her presence serves as a constant reminder of the past and the unresolved feelings of loss and guilt. Imagine having a friendly ghost as your own personal guilt trip!
Tomoya Okazaki, the broken-hearted delinquent
Tomoya’s life is filled with tragedy and shattered dreams. From a dysfunctional family to losing the love of his life, he can’t seem to catch a break. If there were a competition for the “Most Unfortunate High School Experience,” Tomoya would be a strong contender.
Gaara, the sand-slinging loner
Gaara’s childhood was a nightmare of loneliness and isolation, leading him to become a ruthless and feared warrior. It’s not easy growing up as a Jinchuriki, constantly struggling to control a demonic force within you. No wonder he has a perpetual scowl.
Rin Okumura, the demon-human hybrid
Rin’s life takes a turn for the worse when he discovers he’s the son of Satan. Talk about a family secret! From that point on, he’s torn between his demonic heritage and his desire to protect humanity. It’s tough being a demon slayer when you have a demonic side yourself.
Nagisa Furukawa, the delicate dreamer
Nagisa’s backstory is filled with illness, missed opportunities, and a fragile existence. It’s like she’s trapped in a constant cycle of setbacks and setbacks. If there were an award for “Anime’s Most Fragile Flower,” Nagisa would surely win.
Simon, the underground digger
