Stranger Things is not just about monsters and powers — it’s also about people. And sometimes, those people don’t make it to the end.
Over the seasons, we’ve seen some of our favorite characters leave us too soon. And whether they died a hero, were taken too young, or were just in the wrong place at the wrong time — their deaths broke our hearts.
So here’s a list of Stranger Things deaths that hit the hardest and made us wish they somehow came back.
Table of Contents
EDDIE MUNSON – THE HERO WHO NEVER RAN
Let’s be honest — this one hurts the most.
Eddie Munson was introduced in Season 4 and instantly became a fan favorite. He was funny, kind, misunderstood, and just wanted to be himself. But in the end, he chose to stay and fight instead of running away like before.
His guitar solo in the Upside Down? Legendary.
His final goodbye to Dustin? Tears. Everywhere.
Eddie died a hero, but the world never got to know it. And that’s what makes it so painful.
BOB NEWBY
Bob was the sweetest guy ever. He loved Joyce, helped Will, and was honestly just trying his best. He didn’t even sign up for all this monster drama — he just wanted to fix radios and watch scary movies.
But in Season 2, Bob helped the crew escape from Hawkins Lab and was SO CLOSE to making it out.
Then the Demodogs came.
And we watched, helpless, as one of the kindest characters got ripped apart right in front of Joyce.
That scene still stings.
BILLY HARGROVE
Billy was a jerk. Let’s be real.
But Season 3 gave us a whole new side to him.
We saw why he was the way he was — a broken home, an abusive father, and a past filled with pain. When he got possessed by the Mind Flayer, he became the season’s villain.
But in the end, he saved El.
He stood up against the monster and sacrificed himself to protect someone he barely knew. That’s what made his death hit differently.
He died as someone we finally understood.
ALEXEI
Alexei was that one character who made us smile every time he was on screen. He loved cherry Slurpees, Looney Tunes, and was basically just a big kid in a scientist’s body.
He didn’t want to hurt anyone. He just wanted to live.
But in Season 3, he was killed by Grigori — right after winning a carnival prize.
It was such a pure, happy moment…
And then it was over.
RIP Alexei — you deserved better.
BARB
Barb may not have had much screen time, but her death started it all.
She was Nancy’s best friend and the first real victim of the Demogorgon. And for the longest time, people online kept shouting — “Justice for Barb!”
She didn’t deserve to die. She was loyal and just looking out for her friend.
Her death showed us how real the danger was in Hawkins.
DR. SAM OWENS
At the end of Season 4, we still don’t know what happened to Dr. Owens.
He was trying to help El, protect the world, and even stood up to Brenner.
If he’s dead, then that’s another loss of someone who was actually trying to do good.
And if he’s still alive — please, Stranger Things, let him stay that way.
CHRISSY CUNNINGHAM
Chrissy’s death in Season 4, Episode 1, was shocking and brutal.
She seemed like just another high school girl with secrets — but when Vecna got inside her mind, we realized things were about to get serious.
Her bones snapping in slow motion?
That scream?
We were not ready.
Her death set the tone for the whole season. And even Eddie was haunted by it till the very end.
MRS. DRISCOLL AND THE FLAYED
Season 3 had a lot of people being taken over by the Mind Flayer — and even though they weren’t main characters, it still hurt.
Mrs. Driscoll was just a kind old lady who got caught up in all of it.
And the rest of the flayed — random people and even rats — melted into one huge monster.
It reminded us that anyone could die in this show. No one is safe.
So Which Death Hit You the Hardest?
Was it Eddie’s last words?
Bob’s brutal end?
Or maybe Billy’s redemption?
Let me know in the comments below — and yeah, we’re all still hoping Eddie magically comes back.
Stranger Things Season 5 vol 2 is on the way, and let’s just pray we don’t lose any more of our favourites.
